The Atacama Crash 14" from the Soundscape series by Turkish Cymbals is inspired by the Atacama Desert , a vast plateau in South America located west of the Andes and considered the driest desert in the world . This extreme dryness is also reflected in the sound character of this cymbal .

The cymbal is thin and, except for the bell , was hammered entirely by hand to the rim . This produces an extremely dry and dark crash sound , with very low overtone resonance and a fast decay .
