The John Blackwell Signature Series by Turkish Cymbals is a tribute to one of the most expressive drummers in modern music history. John Blackwell Jr. (1973–2017) – known as Prince's drummer in the New Power Generation for over 12 years, and as a sideman for Justin Timberlake, Patti LaBelle, D'Angelo and Bootsy Collins – developed this series in close collaboration with Turkish Cymbals to embody his unmistakable style: funk precision, musical depth and flawless groove. Blackwell himself was enthusiastic: "I am happy to be part of Turkish Cymbals, the new best cymbal. You won't regret."
Construction: Asymmetric Pair for Maximum Precision
The John Blackwell Signature Hi-Hat in 13" is a masterpiece of asymmetric construction: the top cymbal is thin with a brush-like finish – similar to the Clatter and NJG models – providing lightning-fast response and a crisp, direct character. The bottom cymbal is heavier with a traditional finish, giving the pair stability and depth. Both cymbals share a raw, unlathed bell. This deliberate combination of light top and heavy bottom produces a chick sound sharp as a knife – defined, direct and instantly recognisable.

The John Blackwell Hi-Hat is an instrument for drummers who play fast, syncopated grooves and precise rhythmic patterns. The chick sound is hot, clear and cutting – not a soft hiss, but a direct, piercing sound with excellent dynamic range. Played closed the brush-like top cymbal delivers a crispy, articulate stick sound. Played open a controlled wash unfolds with dark character from the heavy bottom.
