Turkish Cymbals Sehzade Series

The name of the Sehzade series by Turkish Cymbals comes from Turkish: Şehzade means “prince” – the son of the sultan. In Istanbul, craftsmen cast and hammer every cymbal from B20 bronze. They then lathe the underside, but on top only the rim and a ring around the bell. The wide ring in between and the bell stay raw, with visible hammer marks.

Hybrid sound with a controlled wash

Sound-wise, the Sehzade series is hybrid and washy. The lathed rim gives a brighter, more energetic response, while the raw middle ring sounds drier and brings more stick definition. The raw ring also keeps the cymbal from ringing on too long, so the wash stays controlled. The Splash is Medium-Thin, the Ride Jazz Thin, and all the other models are Medium-Heavy.

Musical styles and cymbals in the series

One of the most versatile series by Turkish Cymbals, Sehzade suits jazz and rock just as well as punk, funk, soul and fusion. Available individually are the Sehzade Ride with its delicate ping, the lighter, more open-sounding Sehzade Ride Jazz, the Sehzade Crash with its soft fade-out, the Sehzade Hi-Hat with its woody stick sound and the Sehzade Splash for dark, quick accents. The Sehzade Set 1 and the Sehzade Set 2 come as complete packages.
