Turkish Cymbals Studio Series

With the Studio series, Turkish Cymbals offers a versatile cymbal series you can recognise just by looking at its top surface: a raw, hammered rim on the outside, a raw bell at the centre and, in between, a lathed, brilliantly polished area. Every Studio cymbal is cast and hammered in Istanbul, by hand and from B20 bronze.

Earthy attack and brilliant projection in one cymbal

The outer rim is 2 inches wide, unlathed and covered in dense hammer marks; it gives you a controlled response and an earthy attack. Because the rim is polished as well, this effect is weaker than on the Sehzade series, and the rim sounds brighter than it does there. The lathed middle section, polished to a brilliant finish, brings clarity, brightness and projection. The raw bell, which is also polished, sounds clear and focused, and the fully lathed underside opens up the overall sound. All in all, the series sounds medium-bright and washy, yet very clean and clearly defined; the sustain is medium and depends on the size. The raw zones give every model a warm, organic underlying character. Weight-wise, Crash, Hi-Hat and Ride sit in the Medium-Heavy class; the Hi-Hat Light is Thin, and the Splash, too, is thinly built.

Musical styles and cymbals in the series

The Studio series suits almost any style, from jazz and funk through R'n'B to pop and rock, in the studio and live – above all when you're after a clean, clear sound. Individually, you can get the Studio Ride with a crystal-clear ping, the Studio Crash with a bright, direct attack, the Studio Hi-Hat with a clear, warm chick, the lighter Studio Hi-Hat Light and the Studio Splash for quick, bright accents. The hi-hat, crash and ride also come together in the Studio Set 1 and the Studio Set 2. Like the Sehzade series, the Studio series combines raw and lathed zones, though in a different layout; Studio is the polished variant, and it sounds brighter.
