Turkish Cymbals Kurak Hi-Hat – Earthy chick
“Kurak” is the Turkish word for “dry” – and that is exactly how this series sounds. In the Kurak series by Turkish Cymbals, both sides of every cymbal are left completely raw and unlathed: no lathing, no polishing, just pure B20 bronze in its most natural form. The result is a dark, earthy and dry sound – direct and organic. The Kurak models (Medium-Heavy) have a larger bell and more weight for projection and the power to cut through. The Jazz and Thin versions are thinner and lighter, respond faster and are made for more delicate playing.
Sound character: dark, dry and powerful
The Kurak Hi-Hat in 14" and 15" sounds different from most hi-hats. The chick is dark, grounded and heavy – not a bright hiss but a compact, earthy tone with an organic tail. Played closed, the Medium-Heavy construction gives you a strong, solid stick sound with clear articulation. Played open, it produces a dark, full wash. The 14" version sounds more direct, the 15" version fuller and deeper.
Applications: Soul, R’n’B, Rock, Latin, Jazz-Fusion and Funk
Up against loud guitars, the Kurak Hi-Hat has enough power and depth thanks to its Medium-Heavy construction – in Rock it cuts through effortlessly. In Soul, R’n’B and Funk, the dark chick gives the groove warmth and character, while in Latin and Jazz-Fusion it can be played with nuance and musicality.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Kurak cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul from B20 bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – hand-cast using a traditional process, heated and carefully hammered by experienced master craftsmen. No lathing, no high-gloss finish – the raw bronze keeps its original surface. The result is a cymbal that looks as if it were made centuries ago and sounds like the earth itself. At Cymballand, we are proud to bring this authentic craftsmanship straight to you as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals – no middlemen, at the best price.
