Turkish Cymbals NJG Hi-Hat

Turkish Cymbals NJG Hi-Hat – Dry, Clear and Precise

The NJG series (New Jazz Generation) by Turkish Cymbals takes a new approach to jazz cymbal sound: dry, dark, controlled and short. The core of this series is its unique surface – a brush-like finish that creates an even, matte and granular texture on both sides of the cymbal. This texture shortens sustain, reduces uncontrolled overtones and produces an earthy, focused tonal character unreachable with polished or traditional cymbals. The stick sound remains warm and musical – the NJG series sounds dark and controlled without becoming sterile or lifeless.

Asymmetric Pair: NJG Surface on Top, Traditional Finish on Bottom

The NJG Hi-Hat in 13” and 14” follows a deliberate asymmetric construction principle: the top cymbal carries the characteristic NJG surface – raw, brush-like, dark – and delivers a dry, grippy stick sound with a clear chick. The bottom cymbal has a classic, traditionally lathed finish and is somewhat heavier – giving the pair stability, depth and a powerful chick sound. This combination produces a balanced response with stable control – even with a light touch, the chick remains clear and cutting.

Sound Character: Dry, Clear and Versatile

The chick sound of the NJG Hi-Hat is defined and direct – not a soft hiss, but a clear, dry sound moment with warm character. Played closed the brush-like top delivers a grippy, articulate stick sound that makes every rhythmic detail audible. Played open a controlled, dark wash develops with organic depth. The 13” model responds faster and is more direct, the 14” model more voluminous.

Applications: Blues, Jazz-Fusion, Latin, Soul, R’n’B and Funk

The NJG Hi-Hat is the ideal instrument for drummers seeking a dry, dark hi-hat sound with precise articulation. In Blues and Traditional Jazz it responds sensitively to brushes and light sticks. In Jazz-Fusion and Latin the clear chick delivers rhythmic precision for complex grooves. In Soul, R’n’B and Funk the dry character gives the groove authenticity.
