Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Snake Ride – Sizzle from Within the Cymbal
The Jarrod Cagwin Soundscape series arose from a unique artistic collaboration: American drummer and percussionist Jarrod Cagwin – known for his work in Contemporary Music, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring as a hybrid drummer and hand percussionist – developed this series together with Turkish Cymbals with no compromises. Each model bears the name of a natural phenomenon and tells its own sonic story. The goal: to create a natural sound tapestry that can be creatively shaped and controlled.
The Name: Snake – Eight Rivets for Maximum Rattle Effect
The Snake Ride in 21” carries the rattle of the snake on a grand scale. Eight individually placed rivets – distributed evenly around the edge of the cymbal – produce a continuous, controlled sizzle-rattle effect audible with the lightest touch. Completely unlathed, with a raw, unlathed bell – completely untreated, minimal overtones – the Snake Ride is a ride cymbal with a clear mission: maximum tonal character with minimal playing intensity.
Sound Character: Dry, Sizzling and Organic
The stick sound of the Snake Ride is dry and direct – the unlathed surface produces a raw, organic character without excessive brightness. The sizzle of the rivets adds a continuous, lively texture that gives the entire groove breath. At low dynamic levels the cymbal responds particularly sensitively – every nuance of playing becomes audible. Together with the Snake Hi-Hat an atmospheric sound tapestry emerges that stands out in any ensemble.
Applications: Contemporary, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring
The Snake Ride is the central rhythm instrument of the Soundscape series. In Jazz and Contemporary the controlled sizzle effect creates a lively, organic groove sound. In World Music contexts the rattle of the rivets bridges Western cymbal language with percussive traditions from other cultures. In Film Scoring the Snake Ride delivers atmospheric, vibrating sound textures.
