Turkish Cymbals Comet Splash – The spiral in compact form
The Comet Splash by Turkish Cymbals has a continuous spiral cut out of a paper-thin splash cymbal – and it sounds just as unusual as it looks: high and splintered. Like the larger Comet Crash, it ranks among the most versatile effect cymbals from Turkish Cymbals.
Sound character: short crash-china sound, clinking spiral
With its spiral and paper-thin build, the Comet Splash responds instantly: a short, high crash-china sound with no long wash. On the stand, the spiral gives way downwards and sways; after the stroke, it carries on clinking metallically for a few seconds. Stack it on another cymbal and that ring-out drops away – instead, both cymbals clink against each other and create an effect of their own. Body grows with size: a 12" sounds a little fuller than a 10".
Applications: percussion, soundtrack, world music and fusion
At the kit, the Comet Splash has its place wherever quick accents are needed – hanging freely next to your other cymbals or as a stack on a crash, splash or ride of your choice. It works without a drum kit, too: in a percussion setup, you simply strike it with your hand. On recordings – whether soundtrack or world music – it’s suspended beside the percussion and adds single accents; on a fusion kit, it sits close at hand between the crashes. Anyone who enjoys experimenting with effect sounds will quickly warm to the Comet Splash. The Comet Crash gives you even more body and projection.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Comet cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years – by masters who learned their craft in the centuries-old Istanbul cymbal tradition. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces, hammered stroke by stroke, lathed and polished to a high gloss. Only at the very end does a machine cut the spiral precisely out of the finished cymbal. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, every Comet sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
