Turkish Cymbals Dark Hammer Crash – Dry power
The Dark Hammer Crash by Turkish Cymbals is a crash cymbal that responds explosively and dies away with a dark tone. The horizontal stripes across the entire surface are typical of the Dark Hammer series. To create them, the cymbal is lathed, oven-fired and treated with acid – so it sounds drier and more direct, with clear articulation. Thanks to its Medium-Thin build, the Crash comes alive even with light strokes and unleashes its full power when you really lay into it.
Sound character: explosive, dry and direct
Strike the Dark Hammer Crash and it opens up instantly: the attack is loud and immediate. After that, the cymbal fades cleanly and quickly, without excessive wash – the stripes deliberately break up the carpet of sound. That way, the Crash projects powerfully without smothering the mix. Size plays its part, too: a 16" is drier and faster, while an 18" brings more body and a little more sustain.
Applications: traditional jazz, jazz fusion, soul, R'n'B, Latin, funk and grunge
The Dark Hammer Crash is built for drummers who want a focused crash sound that comes through in the mix straight away. In traditional jazz and jazz fusion, it offers a defined attack and a controlled decay. Over soul, R'n'B and funk grooves, it places short, pinpoint accents, while in Latin its direct response provides rhythmic precision. And in grunge it shows what it’s made of – loud enough to cut through any wall of amps. Together with the Dark Hammer Ride, crash and ride sound all of a piece – dry and dark.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Dark Hammer cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. Only then does the cymbal receive its stripe pattern, in several stages – a process that takes a great deal of experience with the material. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, every Dark Hammer cymbal sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
