Turkish Cymbals Dark Hammer Hi-Hat – Precise darkness
The Dark Hammer Hi-Hat by Turkish Cymbals is a pair of hi-hat cymbals for drummers who want an especially dry, clearly articulated sound. Both cymbals bear the series’ signature horizontal stripes – the result of lathing, oven firing and acid treatment – which make the sound more direct. Its Medium-Thin build makes the hi-hat quick to respond and easy to control with finesse.
Sound character: dry, attack-focused and clear
Played closed, the Dark Hammer Hi-Hat sounds short and dry, with little wash – every stroke stands on its own instead of blurring into the next. One customer described the sound like this: “It’s very dry and attack-focused – almost like two pot lids crashing together. Totally convincing, even when you’re hitting as hard as you can.” Opened up, the hi-hat gives you a controlled, dark wash. The chick is precise and crisp. A 14" is quicker and snappier off the stick, while a 15" sounds a little fuller.
Applications: traditional jazz, jazz fusion, soul, R'n'B, Latin, funk and grunge
The Dark Hammer Hi-Hat is aimed at drummers who want exact control over their sound. In the studio, the dryness pays off: the overhead mics pick up a clean, defined hi-hat sound without any distracting wash build-up. Traditional jazz and jazz fusion bring out its pinpoint stick definition. In soul, R'n'B, Latin and funk, the compact sound makes for tight grooves played right on the beat, and in grunge the hi-hat stays loud and clear even when you play hard. Combine it with the Dark Hammer Crash, and your groove and crash accents match tonally, with no break between them.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Dark Hammer cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. Only then does the cymbal receive its stripe pattern, in several stages – a process that takes a great deal of experience with the material. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, every Dark Hammer cymbal sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
