Turkish Cymbals Kurak Hi-Hat Jazz – Light Groove
“Kurak” is the Turkish word for “dry” – and no name could describe this sonic character more aptly. The Kurak series by Turkish Cymbals is the most uncompromising realisation of a raw, untreated sound: both sides of every cymbal are completely raw and unlathed – no lathing, no polishing, just pure B20 bronze in its most natural form. This approach produces a dark, earthy and dry sound reminiscent of ancient Anatolian music – organic, direct and of unique depth. The Kurak models (Medium-Heavy) have a larger bell and more weight for projection and power. The Jazz and Thin versions are lighter and thinner – more responsive and designed for more sensitive playing.
Sound character
The Kurak Hi-Hat Jazz in 14” and 15” is the lighter, more sensitive version of the Kurak Hi-Hat. The Thin construction makes this hi-hat an exceptionally responsive instrument that responds fully to even the lightest touches. The chick sound is darker and softer than the Medium-Heavy model – still dry and organic, but with more delicacy and musical refinement. Ideal for drummers who want to retain the Kurak character in quieter, more intimate setups without sacrificing response speed.
Applications: Soul, R’n’B, Jazz-Fusion, Latin and Funk
The Kurak Hi-Hat Jazz is aimed at drummers combining sensitive, differentiated hi-hat playing with organic Kurak character. In Jazz-Fusion the Thin construction enables fast, complex hi-hat patterns. In Soul and R’n’B the dark, delicate chick gives the groove warmth and authenticity. In Latin and Funk the response speed is ideal for precise, syncopated patterns.
