Turkish Cymbals Ad Astra Splash – Dark and precise
The Ad Astra series by Turkish Cymbals takes its name from the Latin motto “Ad astra per aspera” – “Through hardship to the stars”. It was developed by Turkish drummer and cymbal designer Özgür Can Öney together with the master craftsmen of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, drawing on more than 20 years of stage, touring and studio experience. The result is a big, dark sound that stays controlled and has plenty of texture. Visually, the cymbals recall an Ottoman shield: a dark finish that comes out of the furnace, a natural, unlathed surface and a strikingly large bell.
Sound character: dark, direct and dry
The Ad Astra Splashes in 6", 8" and 10" don’t sound the way you’d expect a splash cymbal to: they are dark, dry and controlled. No shrill highs, no sprawling wash – the attack is direct and punchy, the brilliance is subdued, and the note is gone as quickly as it arrived. Their short, dry sustain lets them punctuate the groove without burying it. The unlathed surface makes them sound more organic than highly polished splashes.
Applications: studio work, funk, rock and fusion
In the studio and on stage, the Ad Astra Splashes deliver precise effects without overloading the mix. In funk, rock and fusion they add short accents with character. Each size has its own pitch – 6" very high, 8" mid, 10" low. Stack them on top of each other and you get a trashier effect sound. Thanks to their thin build, they open up fully even with light stick strokes.

The B20 bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by hand thousands of times by experienced master craftsmen. Only the bell is lathed; the rest of the surface is deliberately left raw and untreated. That gives every cymbal an organic, natural character that no factory can reproduce. Die Cymbals sind große Klasse, auch die Effekt -Cymbals und Bells verschiedener Serien harmonieren miteinander. Bülent nimmt sich jedesmal alle Zeit der Welt, wenn es darum geht, die passenden Cymbals zusammenzustellen. Super finde ich, dass man auf der Website schon mal probehören kann, sehr hilfreich bei der Vorauswahl. Preis und Leistung stimmen, immer wieder gerne!
Wahrscheinlich meine beste Erfahrung von Beckenkäufen überhaupt! Ich hab in meiner Laufbahn als Schlagzeuger schon einige Becken gekauft und leider auch immer wieder mal, aus mangelndem Wissen, daneben gegriffen. Ich wünschte ich wäre früher schon bei Cymballand gelandet. Bülent weiß wirklich was er verkauft und kann, sofern man ein bisschen weiß was man sucht, das richtige an die Hand geben.

Good dark, complex crash
Really dark, loud hihats, works good as secondary hats for blastbeats when set not too washy.
Sehr schönes Crash-Imitat bei mit Rods gespielten Unplugged-Gigs. Bei lauteren Musikstilen markantes, kurzes Splash, muß aber hier auch hart angespielt werden, um sich durchzusetzen.
Ich habe zum zweiten Mal Becken bestellt ohne sie vorher testen und ich bin auch dieses Mal wieder begeistert. Mein Vertrauen ist nicht enttäuscht worden. Sehr empfehlenswert!
Das Snake Ride hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen: es sieht nicht nur fantastisch aus, es klingt auch so! Der Sizzle Effekt ist perfekt dosiert. Das Spielgefühl ist äußerst angenehm. Es harmoniert entsprechend gut mit meinen Snake Hats. Ich bin total begeistert!
Great Cymbal.
Das Capadoccia 22"-Ride ist ein wirklich großartiges und außergewöhnliches Becken. Es hat für meinen Geschmack einen sauberen Ping bei gleichzeitigem dunklen Wash. Ich werde es bei meinem Jazz SetUp verwenden und überlege, mir noch weitere Becken dieser Reihe zuzulegen. Ich war sehr froh, dass die Serie wieder komplett verfügbar ist!
