Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Gamma Splash – A Flash of Light from the Universe
The Jarrod Cagwin Soundscape series arose from a unique artistic collaboration: American drummer and percussionist Jarrod Cagwin – known for his work in Contemporary Music, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring as a hybrid drummer and hand percussionist – developed this series together with Turkish Cymbals with no compromises. Each model bears the name of a natural phenomenon and tells its own sonic story. The goal: to create a natural sound tapestry that can be creatively shaped and controlled.
The Name: Gamma – Gamma Ray Burst from the Cosmos
A gamma ray burst is the most energetic event in the known universe: a brief, intense wave of electromagnetic energy arising from a collapsing supernova – direct, powerful and instantly gone. The Gamma Splash in 6” rightly bears this name. Lathed and unhammered, it delivers an extremely bright, sharp tone with no lingering sustain – a cosmic flash of light in cymbal format. It is the only model in the Soundscape series with a lathed surface, making it a deliberate sonic counterpoint to the other, darker cymbals in the series.
Sound Character: Bright, Sharp and Immediate
The Gamma Splash is intense and direct: brilliant in appearance, sharp in attack, short in decay. It delivers a sparkling, bright accent that acts as a high-contrast counterpart to the dark and dry other Soundscape models. Combined with the unlathed models of the series, the Gamma creates a radiant accent – like a sliver of light in a dark sound tapestry.
Applications: Contemporary, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring
The Gamma Splash is the ideal accent instrument in experimental and acoustic setups. In Film Scoring it creates dramatic, lightning-like sonic moments. In Contemporary Music and World Music it sets bright, high-contrast accents in the sonic fabric. In Jazz it is an unconventional effect element for drummers who want to break out of the ordinary.
