Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Löss Splash – Fast, dry, with a china note
Loess is the name given to fine soil that the wind has carried and deposited over long stretches of time. That is where the Löss Splash gets its name – a small splash cymbal in weight class Thin from the Soundscape series that Jarrod Cagwin co-developed.
Sound character: short tone, a hint of mini china
The Löss Splash responds instantly, and its tone stays dry and short. There is something of a small china in its sound; in shape, though, it is a splash.
Applications: jazz-fusion, percussion, soundtrack and world music
For jazz-fusion and world music the Löss Splash brings short, dry accents with a light china tinge. In percussion setups it adds a compact metallic voice to hand drums, and on soundtrack work it places brief, delicate dots of sound. Brighter and sharper is the Gamma Splash, the second splash of the series.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the Soundscape series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. Next, the face of the Löss Splash is lathed, while the bell keeps its raw cast surface. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each one sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
