Turkish Cymbals Ephesus Hi-Hat – Modern bite
The Ephesus Hi-Hat by Turkish Cymbals is a pair of hi-hat cymbals for drummers looking for a modern, cutting sound with a distinct chick. Each cymbal is hand-hammered on both sides and lathed so gently that only shallow lathe marks remain – the surface looks almost smooth. As a result, the hi-hat sounds more aggressive and more metallic than the cymbals of many other series, without losing the warm fundamental tones of B20 bronze. With its sturdy Medium-Heavy build, it already comes close to Heavy.
Sound character: modern, metallic and powerful
The chick is compact and crisp. Played closed with sticks, the hi-hat sounds clearly articulated – even fast figures stay cleanly separated. Open it up and a strong, full wash unfolds that easily holds its own in loud live setups. For all its aggressive edge, the sound never comes across as cold or tinny. In 14", it responds faster and more directly; in 15", it sounds fuller.
Applications: metal, progressive and rock
The Ephesus Hi-Hat is made for drummers who play heavy music. In metal, the chick cuts through distorted guitars and loud monitors alike. In prog, even complex figures and time-signature changes remain clearly audible. And in rock, it gives the groove a solid, contemporary frame. Paired with the Ephesus Crash, it creates a consistently punchy overall sound.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Ephesus cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered on the top and bottom by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. After that, the surface is lathed very finely while the bell stays raw; an extra-fine re-hammering with special hammers completes the process. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, every Ephesus cymbal sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
