Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Toprak Mini Hi-Hat – Small, fast, dry
Toprak is Turkish for "earth". The Toprak Mini Hi-Hat, a small pair of hi-hat cymbals rated Thin, rounds out Jarrod Cagwin's series. Six large, evenly spaced round holes sit in the top, while the bottom comes without holes; both cymbals are deeply hammered by hand.
Sound character: tight chick, little sustain
The Toprak Mini Hi-Hat has a fast, dry, short chick with very little sustain. Beyond that, it doubles as a small accent cymbal.
Applications: funk, jazz-fusion, jungle, percussion, R'n'B, soul, soundtrack and world music
Beside your main hi-hat, the Toprak Mini Hi-Hat delivers snappy figures in funk, R'n'B and soul, and over fast jungle beats it stays short and clear. Jazz-fusion, world music or a percussion rig: it sits well next to hand percussion, and in soundtrack productions it brings in dry rhythmic detail. Considerably bigger, and with rivets instead of holes, is the series' Snake Hi-Hat.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the Soundscape series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. The two Toprak cymbals are left unlathed, and you can see their hammer marks clearly. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each one sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
