Turkish Cymbals Comet Splash

Turkish Cymbals Comet Splash – A Spiral of Sound

The Comet Splash by Turkish Cymbals is no cymbal in the conventional sense – it is a bronze sculpture that makes sound. From a classic B20 bronze cymbal, a continuous spiral has been cut in a precise artisan process, transforming the cymbal into a helical strip. The result is an object that looks visually like a frozen comet – and sonically fascinates just as much as it surprises visually.

Form as Sonic Principle: The Spiral

The spiral cut form of the Comet Splash is not merely a visual statement – it is the acoustic core of this instrument. The paper-thin material thickness combined with the interruption of the continuous bronze surface deliberately breaks vibration patterns, resulting in a very fast attack, minimal sustain and a characteristic crash-china hybrid sound. The cymbal sounds sharp, defined and immediate – without lingering wash, without uncontrolled ringing. In sizes 10" and 12", the characters differ clearly: the 10" model is more direct and concise, the 12" model offers somewhat more body and depth.

The Comet cymbal has two clearly distinguishable sonic moments: at the first stroke a high, fragmented effect sound emerges – dry, direct and immediate. In the seconds that follow, the bronze spiral continues to vibrate and produces a long, shimmering chimes-like sound tapestry – like a metallic wind chime slowly fading away. This dual nature makes the Comet one of the most sonically versatile effect cymbals in the Turkish Cymbals range.

Two Lives: Suspended Effect Instrument and Stack Cymbal

The Comet Splash is uniquely flexible in its use. As a freestanding effect instrument suspended on a cymbal stand, the spiral rotates and vibrates with every touch – a visual experience that draws eyes on stage. As a stack cymbal placed on another cymbal, it fundamentally changes that cymbal's sonic character: it adds a crisp, dry crash-china sound while simultaneously reducing the sustain of the cymbal beneath. This dual function makes the Comet Splash one of the most flexible effect cymbals in the Turkish Cymbals range.

Applications: Fusion, World Music, Experimental and Soundtrack

The Comet Splash is aimed at drummers, percussionists and sound artists who want to add a completely new dimension to their setup. In Jazz and Fusion it sets extraordinary sonic accents beyond conventional effect cymbals. In World Music and Soundtrack productions it delivers a unique, exotic tonal colour. In experimental setups and sound installations the Comet Splash as a vibrating bronze sculpture is an instrument that dissolves the boundary between music and visual art.
