Turkish Cymbals Kurak Hi-Hat – Earthy Chick
“Kurak” is the Turkish word for “dry” – and no name could describe this sonic character more aptly. The Kurak series by Turkish Cymbals is the most uncompromising realisation of a raw, untreated sound: both sides of every cymbal are completely raw and unlathed – no lathing, no polishing, just pure B20 bronze in its most natural form. This approach produces a dark, earthy and dry sound reminiscent of ancient Anatolian music – organic, direct and of unique depth. The Kurak models (Medium-Heavy) have a larger bell and more weight for projection and power. The Jazz and Thin versions are lighter and thinner – more responsive and designed for more sensitive playing.
Sound character
The Kurak Hi-Hat in 14” and 15” is a hi-hat with a character rarely found in this form. The chick sound is dark, grounded and heavy – no bright hiss, but an earthy, compressed sonic moment with organic resonance. Played closed the Medium-Heavy construction delivers a powerful, stable stick sound with clear articulation. Played open a dark, voluminous wash unfolds that creates broad, organic sound tapestries. The 14” model is more direct, the 15” model more voluminous and deeper.
Applications: Soul, R’n’B, Rock, Latin, Jazz-Fusion and Funk
The Kurak Hi-Hat is the ideal instrument for drummers seeking a dark, earthy hi-hat sound in powerful setups. In Rock the Medium-Heavy hi-hat projects with power and depth. In Soul, R’n’B and Funk the dark chick gives the groove warmth and character. In Latin and Jazz-Fusion the organic character is ideal for nuanced, musical hi-hat playing.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Kurak cymbal is crafted in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul from the secret B20 bronze alloy – 80% copper, 20% tin – hand-cast, heated and carefully hammered by experienced master craftsmen. No lathing, no high-gloss finish – the raw bronze retains its original surface. The result is a cymbal that looks as if it were made centuries ago and sounds like the earth itself. We at Cymballand are proud, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, to bring this authentic craftsmanship directly to you – without intermediaries, at the best price.

Let customers speak for us
Vielen Dank 🤗
Good dark, complex crash
Really dark, loud hihats, works good as secondary hats for blastbeats when set not too washy.
Great Cymbal.
