Turkish Cymbals Kurak Ride – Earthy groove
“Kurak” is the Turkish word for “dry” – and that is exactly how this series sounds. In the Kurak series by Turkish Cymbals, both sides of every cymbal are left completely raw and unlathed: no lathing, no polishing, just pure B20 bronze in its most natural form. The result is a dark, earthy and dry sound – direct and organic. The Kurak models (Medium-Heavy) have a larger bell and more weight for projection and the power to cut through. The Jazz and Thin versions are thinner and lighter, respond faster and are made for more delicate playing.
Sound character: dry, dark and powerful
The Kurak Ride in 20", 21" and 22" has a dry, direct stick sound: no excessive shimmer, no gloss, just a clear, earthy attack with a dark resonance underneath. The large, raw bell delivers a dark, focused bell sound with a rich core. The wash stays controlled and dark – it carries the groove without smothering it. Thanks to its Medium-Heavy construction, the ride stays stable and predictable even when you play hard.
Applications: Soul, R’n’B, Rock, Latin, Jazz-Fusion and Funk
With a loud Rock band, the Kurak Ride keeps up easily thanks to its Medium-Heavy construction and projects with power and precision; in quieter Soul and R’n’B grooves, it carries the beat warmly without getting in the way. The raw bell lends itself to rhythmic accents in Latin and Funk – with a dark, penetrating bell sound. And for nuanced playing in Jazz-Fusion, the ride responds to a finely measured touch.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Kurak cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul from B20 bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – hand-cast using a traditional process, heated and carefully hammered by experienced master craftsmen. No lathing, no high-gloss finish – the raw bronze keeps its original surface. The result is a cymbal that looks as if it were made centuries ago and sounds like the earth itself. At Cymballand, we are proud to bring this authentic craftsmanship straight to you as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals – no middlemen, at the best price.
