Turkish Cymbals Raw Dark Ride – Dark wash, big bell
On the Raw Dark Ride in B20 bronze, what first catches your eye are the many hammer marks on its matte, darkened surface. After intensive hand-hammering, it is left completely unlathed – the bell included. This Medium-Heavy ride cymbal is made from thick bronze and carries an especially big bell.
Sound character: dry stick sound, powerful bell
Every stroke on the bow of the Raw Dark Ride sounds dry and clearly defined, with a dark wash ringing underneath. The Ride gets this character – dry, dark, with a short sustain – from its raw surface. Played on the big bell, it sounds deep, powerful and distinct, and still comes through well in a loud stage mix. Together with the thickness of the bronze, the bell gives the Ride a full, loud overall sound.
Applications: metal, rock, grunge and progressive
In metal, fast ride figures keep their shape, and you can still pick out the bell clearly with the amps turned all the way up. Its raw, dark tone fits right in with the rough, unpolished sound of grunge. In rock, you put patterns and accents on the big bell, and in progressive rock even long, intricate ride passages stay easy to follow. Within the series, the Ride is joined by the Raw Dark Crash and the Raw Dark Hi-Hat.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the Raw Dark series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. No Raw Dark cymbal goes on the lathe: the bow and bell are left raw. After that, each cymbal goes into the furnace once more; only then is it blackened to a dark finish using a special process – it is not lacquered. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each one sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
