Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Atacama Precision Flat Ride – Precision from the Desert
The Jarrod Cagwin Soundscape series arose from a unique artistic collaboration: American drummer and percussionist Jarrod Cagwin – known for his work in Contemporary Music, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring as a hybrid drummer and hand percussionist – developed this series together with Turkish Cymbals with no compromises. Each model bears the name of a natural phenomenon and tells its own sonic story. The goal: to create a natural sound tapestry that can be creatively shaped and controlled.
The Name: Atacama – Precision in Extreme Conditions
The Atacama Precision Flat Ride in 20” is the ride version of the Atacama line – a flat ride cymbal without a conventional bell. The combination of the flat ride concept and Atacama characteristics produces a cymbal of extreme precision and dry depth. Completely unlathed, extremely thin and deliberately curved – the Precision Flat Ride produces a stick sound of unique directness and minimal wash.
Sound Character: Dry, Direct and Vibrating
The Atacama Precision Flat Ride delivers an extremely dry, articulate stick sound – no bell, no broad wash, just pure, percussive attack. Like all Atacama models, the cymbal vibrates on impact in characteristic waves reminiscent of a tam-tam. Thanks to its extreme thinness it responds to mallets, brushes and hands as well as sticks – a universally applicable sonic instrument for creative musicians.
Applications: Contemporary, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring
The Atacama Precision Flat Ride is suited to musicians seeking a controlled, dry ride sound without any bell dominance. In Jazz and Contemporary it serves as an alternative ride instrument with organic character. In Film Scoring and World Music it creates deep, vibrating sound textures. Together with the Atacama Arid Crash it forms a matched sonic pairing of unique consistency.
