Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Satellite Flat Bell – Bell, splash and a small flat ride
The Satellite Flat Bell is a flat disc of B20 bronze, hammered by hand across its entire surface and made in Medium-Thin. Sonically, this bell cymbal co-developed by Jarrod Cagwin moves between bell, mini flat ride and splash.
Sound character: bell or splash, depending on your touch
How the Satellite sounds depends on how you play it. Struck with the fingers it gives a quiet, bell-like tone, and soft mallets sound much the same. Tap it lightly with the stick and it speaks very clearly and distinctly; a hard stroke, by contrast, produces a short, muffled splash effect.
Applications: jazz-fusion, percussion, soundtrack and world music
Since every size has a different pitch, several Satellites let you play small melodic patterns – in percussion ensembles, in world music and jazz-fusion just as on soundtrack jobs with quiet sound textures. Next to a flat ride without a bell, such as the Atacama Precision Flat Ride, the Satellite fits nicely into the setup.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the Soundscape series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. On the flat Satellite discs, no lathing follows at all. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each one sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
