Turkish Cymbals Soundscape Karaburan China – The Black Storm in Sound
The Jarrod Cagwin Soundscape series arose from a unique artistic collaboration: American drummer and percussionist Jarrod Cagwin – known for his work in Contemporary Music, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring as a hybrid drummer and hand percussionist – developed this series together with Turkish Cymbals with no compromises. Each model bears the name of a natural phenomenon and tells its own sonic story. The goal: to create a natural sound tapestry that can be creatively shaped and controlled.
The Name: Karaburan – The Black Storm of Central Asia
“Karaburan” – Turkish for “Black Storm” – denotes one of the most powerful sandstorms in the world, which devastates the steppes and deserts of Central Asia. Dark, wild and of unstoppable force. The Karaburan China in 22” bears this name for good reason: it is the most powerful and darkest china cymbal in the Soundscape series. Completely unlathed, without any lathing traces, it delivers a raw, organic china sound that leaves conventional china cymbals far behind.
Sound Character: Dark, Raw and Powerful
The Karaburan China delivers a dark, explosive china sound with a fast attack and a short, controlled decay. The completely unlathed surface produces minimal overtones and a raw, organic tonal character that reflects the energy of a real storm. At 22” it offers significantly more body and projection than smaller china models without losing its dry directness.
Applications: Contemporary, World Music, Jazz and Film Scoring
The Karaburan China is the instrument for musicians seeking a dramatic, unmistakable china sound. In World Music and Contemporary contexts it creates exotic, powerful sonic moments. In Film Scoring it serves as a dramatic sonic element for intense scenes. In Jazz and experimental setups it surprises with a china character beyond the mainstream.
