Turkish Cymbals Jazz Crash – Warm, dark and musical
The Jazz Crash by Turkish Cymbals is a Medium-Thin crash cymbal, deeply hammered and given a Traditional finish. It speaks quickly, responds even to light strokes and sounds dark and colourful. It isn’t a dry cymbal, though: the Jazz Crash is free to open up and ring out.
Sound character: warm attack, controlled sustain
The attack comes fast and warm. After that, the Jazz Crash fades out musically without ringing on and on – the deep hammer marks take care of that controlled sustain. How the cymbal sounds depends on what you play it with and how hard you hit it: brushes give you a different colour from sticks or mallets. Size shapes the character, too. The 16" has a slightly shorter sustain, while the 18" sounds fuller, with a longer ring-out.
Applications: traditional jazz, jazz-fusion, soul, R'n'B and funk
In traditional jazz, the Jazz Crash adds accents that slot into ride patterns and brushwork. In jazz-fusion tunes, its fast response suits dense figures; in soul and R'n'B, it leads into the chorus, and in funk it marks breaks and transitions. For a typical jazz setup of a 14" hi-hat, 16" crash and 20" ride, you could pair it with the Jazz Hi-Hat and the Jazz Ride, for example. If you’re after an even lighter, faster version, take a look at the Jazz Crash Thin.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every Jazz cymbal is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke; in the process, the Jazz series cymbals are given deep hammer marks. After that, every cymbal is lathed all over and receives a Traditional finish. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each one sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
