Turkish Cymbals NJG Hi-Hat – Dry, crisp chick
The two hi-hat cymbals of the NJG Hi-Hat are both Medium-Thin, but they’re made differently. The top shows the rough, matte surface of the NJG series (‘New Jazz Generation’) on its upper side and a Traditional finish on its inner side. The bottom weighs a little more and is conventionally lathed, with a Traditional finish on both its upper side and its underside. In terms of sound, the pair has the typical NJG character: dry, dark, controlled.
Sound character: dry, clear, dark
The chick of the NJG Hi-Hat is dry, clear and crisp. Played closed, the hi-hat gives your sticks a grippy, well-articulated sound. When you open it, the wash stays controlled: the brush-like upper side of the top keeps it short and gives it a dark colour. The 13" responds faster and more directly, while the 14" sounds bigger.
Applications: traditional jazz, blues, jazz-fusion, Latin, soul, R'n'B and funk
Whether in blues or in traditional jazz, the NJG Hi-Hat responds sensitively to brushes and light sticks. In jazz-fusion and Latin, the clear chick gives complex grooves something to hold on to, and in soul, R'n'B and funk, the dry character keeps hi-hat figures tight and to the point. From the NJG series, the NJG Crash and the NJG Ride Medium go well with this hi-hat. The top of the John Blackwell Signature Hi-Hat has the same surface.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the NJG series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. After that, a special lathing process gives the upper side of the top cymbal its brush-like texture; its inner side and the bottom cymbal are given a Traditional finish. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each one sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
