Turkish Cymbals John Blackwell Signature Ride Jazz – Open wash, long sustain
Turkish Cymbals developed the John Blackwell Signature Ride Jazz as a thin counterpart to the heavy Signature Ride, following John Blackwell Jr.’s wishes. This Thin ride cymbal is lathed with a Traditional finish; its bell stays raw and unlathed.
Sound character: warm wash, dark bell
The wash spreads warm and open, with a long sustain. Even so, the stick sound stays clearly audible, and the cymbal plays well with brushes, too. The raw bell sounds dark. Crash it, and the Ride Jazz also works as a crash-ride.
Applications: jazz, jazz-fusion, soul, R'n'B, funk and contemporary
In jazz and jazz-fusion, the Ride Jazz carries complex ride patterns with its open wash. Under soul and R'n'B grooves, it adds a warm layer of sound, and in funk you crash it for broad accents. If you need a bright, clear ping, the John Blackwell Signature Ride covers that side; as a crash alongside it, the John Blackwell Signature Crash Thin is a good fit.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the John Blackwell Signature series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. After that, each model is given its own surface, from brilliant-polished to Traditional – but the bell stays unlathed on every model in the series. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each cymbal sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
