Turkish Cymbals John Blackwell Signature Ride – Clear ping, powerful bell
The John Blackwell Signature Ride is the heaviest cymbal in the series that Turkish Cymbals developed together with John Blackwell Jr., Prince’s long-time drummer. This ride cymbal belongs to the Heavy weight class and is noticeably thick; the surface is lathed and brilliant-polished, while the large bell stays raw and hammered.
Sound character: bright ping, dark bell
The ping is very bright and clearly defined, and every stroke remains easy to pick out in the groove. The bell, on the other hand, sounds dark and powerful – a marked contrast to the bright ping. Densely packed fine hammer marks, worked in with a pointed tool, cover the entire cymbal: John Blackwell’s signature on this ride.
Applications: funk, rock, soul, R'n'B, jazz-fusion and contemporary
In rock, the bright ping cuts through even loud guitars, and in funk you lay down striking patterns on the powerful bell. Soul and R'n'B grooves get a clear ride foundation, and in jazz-fusion numbers even fast figures stay distinct. From the same series, the John Blackwell Signature Hi-Hat and the John Blackwell Signature Crash Thin go well with it. If you’re looking for a thin ride with a long sustain that you can also crash, take a look at the John Blackwell Signature Ride Jazz.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the John Blackwell Signature series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. After that, each model is given its own surface, from brilliant-polished to Traditional – but the bell stays unlathed on every model in the series. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each cymbal sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
