Turkish Cymbals John Blackwell Signature China – Explosive and short
In John Blackwell Jr.’s Signature series, the John Blackwell Signature China takes care of the effects. This Medium-Thin china cymbal is not lathed but polished by hand: the surface shines brilliantly and keeps the texture of the unlathed bronze. The bell stays raw as well.
Sound character: immediate attack, short decay
The attack is immediate and loud, the sound trashy and explosive. After that, the China dies away quickly – the short sustain comes from the intensive hammering. That way, it stays a short effect and doesn’t clutter the mix. The 19" sounds more direct and drier, while the 20" has more body and volume.
Applications: funk, soul, R'n'B, jazz-fusion and contemporary
In funk, you play the China on stops and breaks. In soul and R'n'B, it puts an exclamation mark at the end of a phrase, and in jazz-fusion it suits band hits and unison passages. For warm crashes, the John Blackwell Signature Crash Thin is the right partner; the John Blackwell Signature Ride and the John Blackwell Signature Hi-Hat round out the set.
Craftsmanship from Istanbul – At the Best Price
Every cymbal in the John Blackwell Signature series is made in the workshops of Turkish Cymbals in Istanbul, where handmade B20 bronze cymbals have been crafted for more than 25 years. The bronze – 80% copper, 20% tin – is cast by hand, heated in traditional furnaces and hammered by experienced master craftsmen, stroke by stroke. After that, each model is given its own surface, from brilliant-polished to Traditional – but the bell stays unlathed on every model in the series. Because casting and hammering are done by hand, each cymbal sounds just a little different. At Cymballand, as the official partner of Turkish Cymbals, we bring this craft straight to you – no middlemen.
